Elbit Systems of America has been awarded a $45.5 million contract to provide its Night Targeting System Upgrade (NTSU) for the US Marine Corps' Bell AH-1W Cobra attack helicopters.
Work under the indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity deal will be performed at the Elbit subsidiary's Merrimack site in New Hampshire over the next five years.
The company says the optical upgrade to its combat-proven Night Targeting System sensor will provide "extended target acquisition, recognition and engagement ranges" in all weather and lighting conditions. The enhancement will also increase the AH-1W's combat survivability, it says.
The USMC has an active fleet of 157 W-model Cobras, as listed in Flightglobal's HeliCAS database.
