Sir - Much has been documented about the effects of electromagnetic interference on modern aircraft-navigation systems, particularly those elements of the "glass-cockpit" electronic flight-instrument system, and how to deal with those problems.

It has been only recently that passengers have become aware of the effects of electromagnetic interference. Airlines have been doing their part, but what of the aircraft manufacturers?

The aircraft manufacturers have had at least seven to ten years to research and eliminate this hazard, but I note that, even with the new-generation Boeing 737 and the latest Airbus Industrie aircraft, the passenger is still banned from using a compact-disc (CD) player.

I can quite understand the passenger's point of view in saying that "-it is silly that" playing a CD track will cause a modern aircraft to get lost. Is any major aircraft manufacturer doing anything about this?
