Israel’s Elisra Electronic Systems has strengthened its campaign to secure increased electronic warfare (EW) business in the UK by creating an Oldham-based joint venture with Ferranti Technologies.

Advanced EW Systems will provide development, manufacturing and support services for defensive aids subsystem and electronic-support measures (DAS/ESM) equipment promoted for integration with UK military rotorcraft.

Emphasis is being placed on offering equipment to modernise British Army and Royal Navy Westland Lynx helicopters and the latter service’s AgustaWestland Merlin HM1 capability sustainment plus programme.

Elisra last month unveiled an “all-in-one” DAS/ESM system for helicopters, fighter aircraft and, potentially, unmanned air vehicles. It acts as a combined radar and laser warning receiver and countermeasures controller from a PC board.
