Venezuela is to acquire 12 EMB-314 Super Tucano light strike aircraft from Embraer under a proposed $110 million deal.

The Super Tucanos are expected to represent the first batch of a 24 aircraft requirement to replace the Venezuelan air force's Rockwell OV-10 Bronco counter-insurgency aircraft. The proposed deal also includes the refurbishment and modernisation of Venezuela's 28 remaining EMB-312 Tucanos.

Along-deferred Venezuelan order for 12 AMX-T lead-in fighter trainers also appears to be back on track. The aircraft are expected to be delivered from 2007 and will benefit from the Brazilian air force's A-1M modernisation programme to its AMX fleet.
