Embraer and Switzerland's Liebherr group have established a landing gear joint venture company which intends to focus on the helicopter- and small-to-medium-sized fixed-wing aircraft market sectors.

Embraer-Liebherr Equipamentos do Brasil (ELEB) incorporates the Brazilian manufacturer's former Divisao Equipamentos landing gear division. Embraer will take 60% of the venture with the remainder owned by the Swiss company. The new operation is based alongside Embraer's headquarters at Sao Jose dos Campos in Brazil.

ELEB, which currently employs around 350 staff, expects annual revenues to be in the region of $60 million.

Liebherr-Aerospace manufactures flight controls and hydraulic and electrical systems, as well as landing gear. The Swiss company currently records annual sales of $460 million. Rapidly growing Embraer is the world's fourth largest manufacturer of commercial aircraft on the back of successful regional jet sales.
