The two major regional jet manufacturers' combined output was flat in 2004 at just over 300 aircraft. Although Bombardier was again the lead producer, it suffered a year-on-year decline in deliveries, while Embraer boosted production.
Bombardier delivered 175 regional jets in 2004, a fall of 20% over the previous year, while Embraer's shipments increased by 50% to 134 aircraft - thanks mainly to the start of deliveries of the new 170 model.
The two rivals saw net orders increase by 13% to 238, with Bombardier taking the lead from its rival. The Canadian manufacturer secured 130 net orders in 2004, up from 72 the previous year, while Embraer's regional jet sales slumped from 139 to 87. The Brazilian manufacturer's strong 2003 order performance was underpinned by the 100-aircraft Embraer 190 launch deal with JetBlue.
A full analysis of 2004 regional airliner orders and deliveries will appear in Flight International next week.
