Hamilton Sundstrand, a major supplier for Embraer's new ERJ-170/-190 family of regional aircraft, says the completion of the joint definition phase (JDP) for the aircraft means the company is on schedule to begin hardware deliveries in the second quarter of 2001.

During the eight month long JDP technical specialists from the 10 risk-sharing partners worked with Embraer engineers and technicians in San Jose dos Campos, Brazil, to finalise the aircraft definition and freeze its configuration.

"Joint definition activities help to ensure we meet all the demanding performance requirements of state-of-the-art aircraft such as the ERJ-170/-190 family," said Hamilton Sundstrand president Ron McKenna. "Our breadth of products and technical experience allow us to offer more integrated systems with fewer parts that are lighter and more reliable." This means Embraer gets lower acquisition and operational costs, while offering passengers greater comfort and safety, McKenna added.
