International Lease Finance (ILFC) has placed a firm order for General Electric-Pratt & Whitney Engine Alliance GP7200s to power up to 14 of its Airbus A380s, giving the GP7200 the lead in the A380 orders battle. The deal, valued at up to $800 million, covers four firm and 10 optioned aircraft, leaving six firm aircraft with unannounced engines. Rolls-Royce previously indicated that its Trent 900 had been selected for ILFC A380s, but has yet to say for how many. The GP7200 has been selected by four A380 customers for 46 aircraft, with the Trent securing four customers for 43 aircraft.
