A NEW AIRCRAFT engine-balancing system which virtually eliminates the need for installed-engine ground runs because of fan imbalance has been launched by UK company Endevco.

The system, known as Trimfast, is an integrated measurement and diagnostic unit which provides optimal weight and angle-balance solutions to reduce vibration caused by engine imbalance.

Endevco, a subsidiary of Meggitt Aerospace, says that Trimfast works by "...receiving data from piezoelectric sensors, conditions vibration data, extracts the imbalance information at the rotor frequencies and computes the bolt and blade balance location using proven software algorithms."
