Embraer is preparing to begin final assembly of the newly mated ERJ-170 fuselage and recently completed main wing in readiness for the scheduled roll-out of the first 70-seat regional jet prototype on 29 October. The Brazilian manufacturer plans to join the fuselage and wing this month. This follows the successful mating of the Latecoere-supplied forward fuselage I and aft fuselage III assemblies with the Embraer-built cockpit and centre fuselage II, Gamesa-produced empennage and tail cone from Hamilton Standard. First flight is due by the end of the year, with deliveries to Crossair starting late next year.
