The European Space Agency launched its third astronaut selection round on 8 May at the UK's Science Museum in London. ESA selected astronaut candidates for the first time in 1978 and then again in 1992.

The third round begins on 19 May and applications can be made online . ESA expects the selected astronaut candidates will work on the International Space Station. ESA's ISS and astronaut corps management insist that citizens from its member states not participating in the ISS programme could still be selected.
