Environmental Tectonics (ETC) has unveiled its centrifuge-based TFS 400 tactical flight simulator, the first ground-based simulator capable of authentically simulating high-gtactical manoeuvring.

The TFS 400 combines ETC's motion system technology with a high-fidelity aerodynamic model and threat environment to simulate any combat aircraft.

The Southampton, Pennsylvania-based firm says the TFS 400 is the world's highest-performance manned centrifuge. Mounted on a 7.6m (25ft) planetary arm and with a 6,000hp (4,470kW) induction drive motor, the gondola can be electro-mechanically controlled between +90/-180° pitch attitude and -10/+90° roll angle. It can subject the pilot to up to 25g, control g-load direction, and increase loads at up to 15g/s. ETC's G-Point dynamic motion system lets the TFS 400 simulate the fighter's response to pilot inputs during high-g manoeuvring.
