The EU and the US have finally come to a provisional ‘open-skies’ agreement after years of negotiations.
Although full details of the historic agreement are not available yet, it is believed that it allows unlimited services between the USA and any EU member state.
The new services could be in place by October 2006, depending on EU approval.
US transportation secretary Norman Mineta says the agreement will provide the opportunity to increase travel, reduce fares and expand commerce.
