THE US aeronautical communications provider ARINC has made further inroads into Europe, home ground for its rival SITA, signing American Airlines as a second customer for its European datalink network.

ARINC's European network, which is based on VHF ground stations rather than satellite links, has now driven a firm wedge into what used to be effectively a SITA monopoly in providing the datalink services needed for real-time airline operations and engineering information.
