Eurocopter comes to Dubai 2000 buoyed by a recent Middle East success. The company has finalised the sale of two EC135 light helicopters to Kuwait, for use with the government's Air Transport department and is looking for more sales in the region.

Meanwhile, the Franco-German group has also won a launch contract for the EC635, the military version of the twin-engined craft.

The Portuguese army signed up for nine EC635s which will be employed in fire support and med-evac missions.

Eurocopter offers potential customers a choice of two powerplants for the aircraft, the Turbomeca Arrius 2B1, selected by Portugal and the Pratt & Whitney PW206B.

On the military front, Eurocopter's Tiger attack helicopter programme reached another milestone when the third development machine underwent a hot weather campaign on the Al Bateen air base in Abu Dhabi.

Tests were conducted at ground temperatures between 38°C and 45°C (100°F-113°F) and were designed to assess the helicopter's operational capability, equipment and ventilation systems in an extreme environment.
