Sir - The latest debacle over workshare on the Eurofighter programme illustrates once again the inevitable complexities of such a high-technology, multi-national project (Flight International, 4-10 October, P28).

It is now too late for British Aerospace even to consider acquiring the management lead, as the flight and development programme is so far advanced that any radical production changes could cause severe damage to the project. Furthermore, the German Government, which is keen to develop a viable aerospace industry, would not take too kindly to Daimler-Benz Aerospace (DASA) losing the "captain's armband".

I believe that BAe should have had the management lead from the outset, because its vast experience in military aviation, compared with that of DASA, is justification enough.
