For the first time at a major public display, both versions of the Eurofighter EF2000 took to the air over Le Bourget to give an aerobatic display.
The Italian-assembled DA7 single-seat aircraft and Spanish-built DA6 two-seater went through their paces in front of a crowd still uncertain as to when - or if - the German government will give the go-ahead for the production investment funding that will ultimately see aircraft rolling off the production lines.
The importance of the decision to thousands of companies was emphasised by a warning from German trade union representatives that demonstrations were likely if Chancellor Kohl's government did not approve the decision - see page 3.
