Europa Aircraft plans to offer winglets as an option on its Motor Glider wings for the Europa kit plane. The structures are undergoing flight testing on a production carbon fibre glider wing at the company's UK base in Kirkbymoorside, North Yorkshire, and are due for delivery to customers in the fourth quarter on the first Motor Glider wings. Around 30 orders have been received for the wings, which are offered as a replacement for the standard short wings on the Europa kit plane. Europa says: "With a 10° dihedral, these winglets are expected to yield up to a 10% improvement to the glide ratio [of 13:1] with minimal structural implications." The wings can be exchanged "in under five minutes", says the company.
