The 26 airlines forming the Association of European Airlines (AEA) carried 162.7 million passengers on scheduled international flights in 1997, compared to 147.9 million in 1996. Intra-European traffic recorded the highest growth, at 10.2%, closely followed by the North Atlantic, which saw a 9.7% rise. Passenger load factors were up 2% to a record 72.4%.
