Piaggio Aero Industries has delivered two P180 Avanti IIs to Italy's border patrol agency, joining 12 Piaggio P166s, which are being upgraded.
The Avantis will be used for surveillance, carrying a forward-looking infrared sensor, as well as staff and patient transport, the latter using a quick-change air ambulance kit. The agency's aviation arm is also taking delivery of two more ATR 42MPs this year, doubling the total of the type in its fleet.
Meanwhile, Spain's infrastructure ministry has taken delivery of three EADS Casa CN-235-300 maritime surveillance aircraft. They will enter service later this year and be used for maritime search and rescue and pollution control.
