Taiwanese carrier EVA Airways expects to gain approval for a stock exchange listing by July. The airline is also edging closer to membership of a global alliance, having held preliminary talks with Star, oneworld and the emerging KLM/Northwest-led "Wings" group.

EVA vice-chairman and president Frank Hsu tells Flight International sister on-line service Air Transport Intelligence that a listing application was submitted to Taiwan's Over the Counter Authority in October. If approved, EVA should become a publicly traded company by early 2000. Hsu says funds will not be used for fleet expansion, as the airline has reined in expansion plans.

The airline reported a NT$75.4 million ($2 million) net profit for 1998 on revenues of NT$42.9 billion, and predicts profits of NT$480 million on NT$46.3 billion in revenue in 1999.
