Keith O’Dell is a man who thinks the world of paint.  As General Manager of Haselmere, UK based Paint Services Group he believes in his products.  “There is a current focus on going green.  We are no different and are showing EBACE our capabilities,” says O’Dell.

PSG especially with its Jet Glo and Jet Glo Express,” adds O’Dell.  Jet-Glo is a type of paint that will give any aircraft a glossy finish that is so generically associated with business jets.

“Jet-Glo Express is fantastic – it offers the same levels of quality and gloss but is more environmentally friendly.  Jet Glo Express can achieve the same results and is fast drying - in only eight to ten hours it’s ready for use, which means less downtime,” says O’Dell.

Along with its faster drying ability it also contains less than 3.5lbs/gal (420g/l) of VOCs (Volatile Organic Compounds).  The result is a paint product that is kinder to the environment and can be applied quicker.

Aviation as an industry is seen by outsiders as the principal emitter of pollutants.  “Looking back, primers used to use chrome because of its protection abilities.  We’ve answered the call to go green by introducing a new chromate-free primer that still offers the same levels of protection but also helps protect the environment too,” says O’Dell.

“The new low VOC chrome free primer has both anti-corrosive properties, and because it contains no chromates can be safely sanded.  It also has excellent chemical resistance and flows out to a smooth film reducing production time normally required for additional filling and sanding.  It’s also light grey in colour which makes it easier to cover with low opacity white finishes.  We expect more of these products to come from Sherwin-Williams as they are actively testing these products with OEMs,” says Colin Bolton, technical manager.
