McDONNELL DOUGLAS (MDC) and Northrop Grumman have formally agreed to develop jointly a derivative of the F-18E/F Hornet strike aircraft as an electronic-warfare (EW) aircraft. It is proposed as a replacement for Northrop Grumman's EA-6B Prowler early in the next century.
Although they are teamed on the F-18 C2W (command & control warfare) project, the firms only recently signed a memorandum of understanding naming MDC as prime contractor.
