All Nippon Airways has named Mineo Yamamoto as president and chief executive to replace Yoji Ohashi, who is to become the carrier's chairman. The succession sees Yamamoto, a 35-year ANA veteran and current senior executive vice-president, take over in April, while Ohashi takes over from Kichisaburo Nomura, who will become executive adviser.

Without undue ceremony, Continental Airlines has conducted its executive reshuffle, with Gordon Bethune retiring from his leadership position at the carrier to leave Larry Kellner as chairman of the board and chief executive, and Jeffery Smisek as president.

The new chief executive at Cathay Pacific Airways, Philip Chen, has taken office replacing David Turnbull, who has led the carrier since 1998. The succession has seen corporate development director Tony Tyler promoted to Chen's former chief operating officer's role.
