Sir - The Comment page on the proposed Boeing/McDonnell Douglas merger (Flight International, 21-27 May) highlights the way in which Europe is set to go.
The inflated egos of European Commissioners grow larger day by day. Not only are they intent on poking their noses into every aspect of our lives, but they are now telling the USA what it can and cannot do.
It is to be hoped that US aircraft manufacturers will tell Mr Van Miert to take a ride on his Euro-bike.
I do not believe that Van Miert is concerned about unfair competition. The European commissioners are interested only in increasing their own powers.
