French-Italian manufacturer ATR announced a $68-million order for five ATR 42-500 aircraft at the show yesterday. The buyer is Eurowings.

Deliveries are scheduled for the beginning of next year and will replace older ATR aircraft in the fleet.

Richard Santner, chairman of Eurowings, says: "With this order, we set forth the renewal of our fleet. At the same time, the order represents a further improvement of our product.

"The ATR 42-500 is ideal for European routes with limited passenger volume, or for smaller airports with short runways for take-off and landing."

Eurowings, one of the largest regional operators in Europe, currently operates a total of 27 ATR aircraft.
