Silicon Graphics (SGI) is producing night-vision goggle (NVG) simulation systems to upgrade training devices fielded by Lockheed Martin under the US Air Force's Lockheed Martin F-16 mission training centre programme. SGI has received a $3.6 million contract to install the system on 10 F-16 simulators and four more on order.

The networked F-16 training devices already use SGI Onyx 3000 graphics supercomputers as image gener-ators, driving a 360° visual display. SGI built a prototype NVG simulation system under a $1.6 million contract won early last year, and it is being fielded to meet an urgent USAF requirement for night-vision goggles training.
