The US Department of Defense says that it has successfully demonstrated an advanced navigation set incorporating global-positioning system (GPS) and inertial-navigation system (INS) technologies. The system was tested on a McDonnell Douglas F-18 by the Defence Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the US Navy. DARPA provided a Phase 1 GPS Guidance Package for the tests.

The GGP consists of a miniature INS, a ten-channel receiver capable of processing GPS signals, and a navigation computer.
