The US Federal Aviation Administration has given Christopher Hart the new post of assistant administrator for system safety. Hart's job will encompass overall responsibility for safety programmes and he will be FAA Administrator David Hinson's chief advisor for such matters. He comes to the FAA from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, where he was deputy administrator. He was previously a member of the US National Transportation Safety Board. A pilot with a degree in aeronautical engineering and a law-school graduate, hart has also worked for the Air Transport Association.
