Hughes Aircraft has won a $36 million US Army contract to begin low-rate initial production of the first ten AN/MPQ-64 battlefield air-defence radar, as part of the US Army's Forward Area Air Defence (FAAD) system. Hughes delivered the first pre-production radar in June 1993. In addition to the first ten, it could deliver a further 138 systems, worth a total of more than $400 million, over the next five years, if all options are exercised.
