Taiwan's Far Eastern Air Transport has formally confirmed plans to purchase up to 10 Boeing 757-200s and two Boeing MD-83s.

The Taipei-based airline says in a statement issued through Boeing that the aircraft will be used on new international services including those to China once a ban on direct flights from Taiwan is lifted.

The two MD-83s are on firm order, and both are to be delivered next year. Five 757-200s are also on firm order, and the airline has the right to upgrade to the longer -300 model. The five other 757s are held as options.
