Electronics research specialist Roke Manor Research is to supply its towed target control avionics suite to UK-based Cobham subsidiary Flight Refuelling (FRL).

Roke, a Siemens subsidiary, will replace around 95% of the existing avionics on FRL's Blackjack airborne threat simulation's height positioning systems with its own Mark IVa miniature radar altimeter (MRA), light control and target control software .

Roke says it invested over £250,000 ($463,000) on developing MRA under a risk-sharing deal with FRL. The 10-year deal is FRL's first subcontract from its special mission aircraft operations for the UK Ministry of Defence, says Roke avionics skill group manager Jason Hall.
