Turboprop manufacturer ATR has opened a new training centre at Kuala Lumpur. The centre will be operated in cooperation with Malaysia Airlines’ subsidiary Firefly, and will be equipped with a full-flight simulator (FFS) supplied by CAE of Canada.
The centre has been opened in response to the remarkable growth of the ATR fleet in Malaysia and the surrounding area. ATR last year entered the Malaysian market with sales to the Malaysia Airlines’ subsidiaries Firefly and MASwings, and to Berjaya Air.
Based at Subang Airport, the centre is available for all the ATR operators in the region and is already almost fully booked until the end of the year. It is the ATR second training center in Southeast Asia, after the one set up in Bangkok.
ATR CEO Stéphane Mayer says: “We have decided to open this new training center in Kuala Lumpur because of our strong growth in this part of Asia. In addition, the Bangkok training center, operated jointly with Thales, was reaching saturation with growing requests from Asian customers, so we needed to create new training facilities in the region.”
