Going Dutch

Schipol-based VLJ operator Sky-taxi came to Farnborough following last week’s launch and will start operations in September with one Cessna Citation Mustang aircraft, building up to five in total by September 2009.

Founder Roland Kortenhorst, says: “Smaller aircraft can operate from smaller regional airfields, so congestion does not exist but in the longer term, the Netherlands should carefully consider how to develop a good infrastructure.”

Doing the double

Embraer announced a double order for business jets at the show worth $97million at list prices.

The sales orders cover a single Lineage 1000 for UAE-based Al Habtoor group for private use, and two Legacy 600s to Greek charter company K2 SmartJets.
Al Habtoor engaged Abu Dhabi-based Royal Jet to manage the deal, as well as providing support of the aircraft.

Nice little runner!

Massive demand for secondhand aircraft has prompted ExecuJet to create a dedicated pre-owned division with sales representatives in Europe, South Africa, the Middle East and, soon, the US. Demand is being led by the Middle East, which is growing by 20% each year, plus strong growth in India and China, says Nicholas McHaffey, head of global pre-owned sales.

$100 million deal

The Interiors and Structures Division of NORDAM has signed a long-term agreement with Gulfstream Aerospace to provide the composite wing-to-body fairing and main landing gear doors for its new G650 ultra long-range business jet. The agreement, valued at potentially $100 million, includes design, certification and manufacture of the all-carbon fiber fairings and main landing gear doors.

Tried and trusted…

Business jet manufacturers are opting for older titanium fluid-based ice protection systems over newer technology, according to CAV Aerospace. Steve Joyce, head of operations for the British manufacturer says: “New electrical impulse installations are not as effective. Our version uses proven technology and is both reliable and successful.”

By Royal command

The British Royal family is staying with Sikorsky helicopters and will have a new S-76C++ in August 2009 to replace the existing S-76C+. “We are honoured that the royal family and so many others entrust their safety and comfort to us,” says Jeffrey Pino, Sikorsky president.
