UK-based Chemring is the only company to make all three flares for the advanced infra red countermeasures munition (AIRCMM) system used by the US Army and Air Force.

AIRCMM is used to protect helicopters against the threat of infrared guided missiles. It comprises the M212, the M206 MTV (magnesium, teflon and viton) decoy manufactured by US subsidiary Kilgore, and the M211 multi-spectral special material decoy manufactured by Alloy Surfaces, another Chemring subsidiary, based in Philadelphia.

Dan McKenrick, president, Chemring North America, says: “The M212 win is a key endorsement of us by the US Department of Defense. It allows us to be more responsive to our customer and means we can utilise our engineering talent and large-scale production facilities to bring products to volume production more efficiently and cost effectively.”
