Saudi Arabian Airlines has selected the CFM International CFM56 powerplant for the 22 Airbus A320 aircraft it has on order from the manufacturer.

The Jeddah-based flag-carrier has already chosen the CFM56 for 20 leased A320s which the airline has agreed to take as part of a short-haul fleet renewal.

CFM values the follow-on selection at around $300 million at list prices.

Saudi Arabian Airlines, which firmed the 22-jet deal in December 2007, is to begin taking delivery of its new aircraft next year.
