Screened cable manufacturer Tyco Electronics and box manufacturer Polyformes are targeting the aerospace defence sector at Farnborough by developing a specialist repair kit for mending an aircraft’s cables in the field.

With every UK naval vessel having a Tyco/Polyformes kit onboard and the British Army following suite, John Toye, business manager at Polyformes, says he’s hopeful of providing a similar product for the Royal Air Force within three months.

“These kits can help get vehicles and aircraft back to operational standards very quickly. Everything required to repair screened cables is in there, from crimping devices to heat guns.”

Keith Ridout, technical service engineer, Tyco, says the company is approaching the US military – which doesn’t carry such products. “The US military is the obvious market for us as it’s so large and has an obvious operational requirement. I’m confident once we’ve proven the aerospace electrical repair kit with the UK Armed Forces, we’ll be able to export to other nations.”
