Unison Engine Components, formerly Smiths Aerospace Components, has been selected by Germany’s MTU Aero Engines to supply flash butt welded rings for a number of legacy engine programmes.

The seven-year agreement calls for delivery to begin in January 2009 and run through to 2015. Unison will support the contract out of its Mountaintop, Pennsylvania facility.

MTU Aero Engines is Germany’s leading engine manufacturer and an established global player in the industry. It engages in the development, manufacture, marketing and support of commercial and military aircraft engines and industrial gas turbines, employing around 7,100 people and with a presence in all significant regions and markets worldwide.

Unison Engine Components supplies close-tolerance, complex, rotating, thin-wall aero-engine components made from premium grade materials. Meeting the stringent demands of aircraft engine applications, Unison specialises in flash-welded rings, precision rolling, machining and fabrication.
The company supplies gas turbine engine components for almost every major engine programme worldwide, drawing on key technologies and capabilities to equip gas turbine engines from intake to exhaust. Unison’s HQ is in Pennsylvania and it has operating facilities in the UK, US, China and Poland.
