Eurocopter has announced plans to expand training services for North Sea oil and gas customers in Scotland. The company will open its first UK-based EC225 Flight Training Device (FTD) in Aberdeen in 2010.
The facility will be operated by Eurocopter UK and forms part of the company’s plans to increase its footprint in the UK. The FTD will be qualified to JAR FSTD Level 3 standards.
“Our customers have been telling us they need access to training, notably to FTDs,” explains Eurocopter chief executive Lutz Bertling. “We have listened and we are responding to those needs.
“This strategy is in tune with Eurocopter’s reinforced commitment to improving flight safety by providing low-cost alternatives to real flight in locations far from existing simulators.”
Two EC135 FTDs will become operational later this year in Dallas, US and Donauworth, Germany. Eurocopter says its localisation policy will extend to other programmes including the EC175 and Dauphin in the coming months, including a presence in Southeast Asia.
