BAE Systems has developed a simulator app that allows operators to fly the Eurofighter Typhoon on the “Mach Loop” over Wales.
The app – Typhoon Time – allows users to “get up close and personal” with the cockpit of the aircraft, while also providing facts and statistics on the Typhoon.
Players compete on a virtual representation of the Mach Loop – a Welsh flight course used to train pilots – attempting to beat opponents by achieving the best circuit time.
Typhoon Time was demonstrated at the Royal International Air Tattoo at RAF Fairford, where visitors were able to test their virtual flight skills on the app in front of the Typhoon's designers and engineers.
“I am very lucky to have the opportunity to fly such an iconic aircraft, and it's a truly exhilarating experience every single time I take to the air,” Mark Bowman, chief test pilot at BAE Systems says in a statement. “The new Typhoon Time app really brings the Mach Loop to life, and people to gain an insight into the role of a test pilot.”
The app is available from the iOS and Google Play stores now, and can be downloaded for free.
