Show site staff, exhibitors and visitors to Farnborough International can have music while they work courtesy of Farnborough Airshow radio. Situated between Halls 3 and 4, this radio station broadcasts 24h a day during show week.

"During validation week we focused more on playing music that contractors could listen to while they work," says Fred Marden, station manager. "During the show week itself our main emphasis is on relaying as much information as possible. We give listeners information about traffic, parking and everything going on around the site"

This is the second time Farnborough Airshow radio has been a part of the show. As well as office-based broadcasts there will also be live reports by a number of roving reporters from the exhibition halls, flying displays etc.

The radio team is made up of students and staff from the Farnborough College of Technology's Media and Visual Arts department. Radio forms a valuable component of many students' courses and the airshow presents the ideal opportunity for them to get some hands on experience of broadcasting.

"SBAC plays an integral role in getting us well-known on-site and we've been inundated with requests from exhibitors that we cover their stands during our broadcasts," Marden says.

As well as a fostering a close relationship with the SBAC, the station also benefits from working with Flight International in gathering news items.
