Advertising campaigns for the Farnborough airshow have a history of controversy and the current campaign being launched at Le Bourget is no exception.

Visitors to Le Bourget will be treated to the brightly coloured advert staking Farnborough International's claim to being the best show for business.

The poster, with a yellow background, begins with the statement "It's not the food," with a bowl of oriental style noodles representing Singapore. It then says "It's not the weather" with an image of Dubai's sand dunes. "It's not the scenery" shows a photograph of the Eiffel Tower. At the bottom of the advert it says "It's the business" with the Farnborough International 2004 logo. The pictures used on the advert will change throughout the course of the show.

"We've always liked to do something with our advertising that is different to the other shows," says Amanda Stainer, head of exhibitions, Society of British Aerospace Companies (SBAC) which organises the Farnborough International event.

"During the last Farnborough show we had an advert showing the back of a naked man with the slogan 'Missing something' which really put a smile on people's faces. Our message is that Farnborough is the show where a lot of major business is done and we think our current campaign will highlight this."

The adverts will be in all of the show daily newspapers as well as on graphic panels on-site.

"None of the other shows have done anything quite like this before and we think it is really eye-catching," says Amanda. "The fact that it is a moving campaign with changing images is especially interesting. It's a real one-off campaign that the SBAC is very proud of."
