Hamilton Sundstrand has entered into the joint definition phase for the systems it is supplying to the Irkut MS-21 twinjet.

Irkut in 2009 selected Hamilton Sundstrand to supply the aircraft's advanced electric power generating system, secondary electrical power distribution, auxiliary power unit and wing anti-ice and nitrogen generation systems.

Additionally, Hamilton Sundstrand has teamed with NPO Nauka to jointly develop the aircraft's integrated air management system, while its Kidde Aerospace and Defense subsidiary is supplying the Fire Detection and Suppression System for the MS-21.

Hamilton Sundstrand estimates the value of the programme awards is roughly $2.3 billion.

On 19 July MS-21 manufacturer United Aircraft said it has signed an order for up to 50 aircraft, and hopes to reveal the customer's identity in a few days.
