PPG Industries (H4/B10) has begun full-scale production of its Opticor high-performance plastic for lightweight aircraft windows. The material, which will be manufactured at PPG's facility at Sylmar in California, will be used for the outboard surface of the passenger cabin windows of the Gulfstream G650 business jet. According to PPG, the plastic is laminated to stretched acrylic for increased stiffness and assembled with an inboard coated glass panel that is heated for antifogging. PPG fabricates the windows at its Huntsville, Alabama, plant.
