Pratt & Whitney has won Shanghai Airlines as engine health monitoring customer and Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) as maintenance partner for the legacy JT9D turbofan family.
The Chinese carrier contracted P&W to keep a watchful eye on the PW2037 engines of its 10-strong Boeing 757 fleet and make respective maintenance recommendations.
The US manufacturer will use its Internet-based Advanced Diagnostics and Engine Management (ADEM) tool to monitor the powerplants' on-wing performance data. The contract also covers six spare engines.
P&W has designated the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) arm of Tel Aviv-based IAI, Bedek Aviation Group, as a service centre for the JT9D engine family.
The engine maker inked a 10-year partnership with Bedek, which has supported the type as third-party MRO provider for 24 years.
