Royal Jordanian Airlines has placed a follow-on order for three Boeing 787-8s, completing a long-haul fleet renewal that will see it operate 11 of the type by the end of 2016.
The order, signed during the Farnborough air show and previously attributed to an unidentified customer on Boeing's website, takes to seven the number of 787s Jordanian has on firm order with Boeing.
It is also leasing two 787s each from lessors CIT Aerospace and International Lease Finance. Today's order fills in the gap left after it originally planned to lease three 787s from lessor LCAL. All the carrier's 787s are powered by General Electric GEnx powerplants.
"Signing for the purchase of three additional 787s concludes the plans to replace our entire long-haul fleet," says Royal Jordanian chief executive Hussein Dabbas.
The carrier will take the first three 787s in 2013, another in 2014 and the remainder of 2015-16. He says the aircraft will initially replace its existing Airbus A310s and A340s, and eventually its A330s.
