The US Marine Corps may eliminate vertical take-off from the list of requirements planned for a next-generation unmanned aircraft system. Lt Gen George Trautman, the USMC's aviation chief, says the so-called "Group 4" UAS - previously named Tier 3 - could trade a vertical takeoff capability for a land-based successor to the MQ-1 Predator/MQ-9 Reaper family.
