Middle Eastern carrier Yemenia has selected International Aero Engines V2500 powerplants for the 10 Airbus A320s it ordered earlier this year.

The agreement, disclosed during the Farnborough air show, includes a long-term aftermarket support contract.

Deliveries are set to begin next year, says the engine manufacturer.

IAE values the overall agreement at around $300 million.

It says Yemenia's requirements included a need for hot-and-high performance given the altitude of the capital Sana'a International Airport.

Yemenia chairman Abdulkalek Al-Kadi says the engine "has demonstrated a clear performance advantage operating in the difficult environments at our home base".

The airline already has the rival CFM International CFM56 powerplant fitted to its Boeing 737-800 fleet.

Yemenia's V2500 will be the SelectOne production version.

IAE states that SelectOne has clocked up one million flight hours and 500,000 cycles, over 20 months of service, since the powerplant was first introduced with Indian carrier IndiGo in October 2008.
