A proposed US Federal Aviation Administration airworthiness directive affecting Lake amphibians requiring removal of the wing, inspection for spar cap cracks and installation of a doubler kit has been attacked as "superfluous and potentially damaging" by the Seaplane Pilots Association. It is pushing for a cheaper solution to the cracking, involving installation of the spar doublers without removing the wing.
