A panel of independent aerospace industry experts has selected the finalists for this year's Flight International Aerospace Industry Awards. The judges considered a record number of entries in the 11 categories. The winners will be announced at a gala dinner on 14 June during the Paris air show.

Finalists in the air transport category are Airbus Industrie, BWIA International Airways, Honeywell Airport Systems and Smiths Industries Aerospace/Alaska Airlines. AlliedSignal Aerospace, Rockwell Collins and Smiths Industries are on the shortlist in the avionics category, while Europa Aircraft, Bombardier Business Aircraft and Rotorway International are finalists for the corporate and general aviation award.

The engineering, systems and components top prize will be awarded to either Data Systems and Solutions, Europa Aircraft or Boeing.

Hamburg Airport, Kuala Lumpur International Airport and Northrop Grumman were considered the top achievers in the infrastructure category, while the maintenance and modification award will be presented to either Boeing, Lord Corporation or Messier Services.

The military aviation award will be presented to Bell Helicopter-Textron, Boeing or British Aerospace North America.

GKN Westland Aerospace and two separate entries from Rolls-Royce are competing for the propulsion top award, while the finalists in the space category are Boeing, Northrop Grumman and Surrey Satellite Technology.

The shortlisted entries for the training and safety award are the Royal Air Force, Lockheed Martin Tactical Aircraft Systems and Cirrus Design.

The 1999 Personality of the Year - the industry executive who the judges considers has made a major contribution to aerospace over the past year - will also be named at the award ceremony.
